Karen went to the ritzy parish down the road for Mass this morning. Here was our dialogue afterwards …
KAREN: The priest was going on and on about what wonderful Catholics his parishioners are.
KEVIN: What a joke! We know those people.
KAREN: He said they surpassed their goal. They’re building a shelter. They wanted to raise $150,000 to build it, and they raised $186,000. He said they were the most generous people he knows.
KEVIN: Well, they did raise $300,000 to repave their parking lot, and yet they wouldn’t pay $1500 for a Theater of the Word show, and the kids in the school there don’t seem to know who Jesus is, and we can assume 56% of their parents voted for a fascist strongman, but at least these people are generous when it comes to building a homeless shelter!
KAREN: A homeless shelter? Are you kidding me? They’re building a shelter in the athletic field, so the parents won’t have to sit in the sun during soccer games! A $186,000 shelter!
God bless the Catholic Church!
That sounds like something Holy Spirit in Johnson County KS would do. I've never felt more uncomfortable and out of place in a church in my life as the time my family visited there. They were doing some kind a of fundraiser for their roof that day and the priest talked about how many parishioners had already given $1K apiece. Thought I was going to choke
